In Japan a cracked cup is never thrown away. The crack is filled with gold - 金継ぎ, kintsugi - and the cup becomes more precious than it was when whole. And it is the crack alone that makes this cup the only one in the world.

The 23rd of September is the day of the autumn equinox, 秋分の日. It is said that our life has this shore - where we live, hurry and doubt. And the far shore - where everything is finally in its place. At the equinox, when the day is exactly equal to the night, the distance between the two shores is at its shortest. Hence the name of the week: 彼岸, O-higan.
